Phillipa Soo, recognized for her role in Hamilton and Stephen Sondheim’s Old Friends, is set to portray Mary Magdalene in the upcoming production of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl next month. Joining her will be Josh Gad, known for his work in Frozen and The Book of Mormon, who has been cast as King Herod.
Previously, it was announced that Milo Manheim and Raúl Esparza will also join the ensemble cast, which features Cynthia Erivo as Jesus and Adam Lambert as Judas. Manheim will take on the role of Peter, while Esparza will play Pontius Pilate. The production, which is directed by Sergio Trujillo, promises to be a grand interpretation of the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber-Tim Rice musical, scheduled for performance on August 1, 2, and 3.
