Star-Studded Jesus Christ Superstar Set to Rock the Hollywood Bowl!

The Hollywood Bowl is set to host an exciting rendition of Jesus Christ Superstar on August 1, 2, and 3, 2025, featuring an impressive cast. Joining Cynthia Erivo as Jesus and Adam Lambert as Judas are Josh Gad, known for his roles in Disney’s Frozen and Broadway’s The Book of Mormon, who will play King Herod, and Phillipa Soo, celebrated for her performance as Eliza Hamilton in Hamilton, who will portray Mary Magdalene.

Josh Gad has garnered fame for voicing Olaf and has a rich Broadway background, including iconic performances in The Book of Mormon and as LeFou in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. He will soon appear in the upcoming project A Tree Fell in the Woods alongside Alexandra Daddario and Daveed Diggs.

Phillipa Soo, recognized for her heartwarming performances in over six Broadway productions, has received Tony and Emmy nominations, along with a Grammy win for her role in Hamilton. Besides her work in theater, she is currently starring in the series Dr. Odyssey, adding to her impressive repertoire.

This rendition of the beloved musical, which delves into the dramatic events leading to Jesus Christ’s crucifixion as portrayed through the eyes of Judas, aims to return to its rock roots with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. The production is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo, with notable contributions from Tony and Grammy winner Stephen Oremus, who takes on the role of musical director and conductor.

Additional creative talents involved in bringing Jesus Christ Superstar to life include scenic designer Jason Ardizzone-West, costume designer Emilio Sosa, projection designer Peter Negrini, and various lighting, sound, and makeup designers, ensuring a rich and immersive theatrical experience.

Originally introduced as a concept album, Jesus Christ Superstar has become a global sensation, captivating audiences for decades. The rock score features iconic songs such as “Superstar,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” and “Gethsemane,” cementing its status as a timeless classic that explores the intricate relationships and struggles surrounding Jesus’ final days.
