Star-Studded Finale: Pink and The Chicks Take Center Stage at DNC!

Pop singer Pink and the country group The Chicks are set to perform on the final night of the Democratic National Convention on Thursday, according to sources familiar with the event’s planning.

Pink, whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore, endorsed Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential campaign and expressed her discontent with then-President George W. Bush’s policies through her song “Dear Mr. President.” She is also recognized for her activism in various charitable causes, advancing issues related to animal rights, LGBTQ rights, and women’s rights.

The Chicks, previously known as the Dixie Chicks, are likely to sing the national anthem. They performed an a cappella rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” during the last night of the 2020 DNC, which primarily took place online due to Covid-19 protocols.

The band faced considerable backlash in 2003 after lead singer Natalie Maines criticized President Bush at a concert in London just days before the Iraq War commenced. Maines stated that the band did not support the war and expressed that they felt “ashamed” of Bush, who also hailed from Texas.

Pink and The Chicks’ anticipated performances follow those of other notable artists at the convention, including John Legend, Sheila E., and Stevie Wonder, who performed on Wednesday. A source linked to the DNC revealed that there are more surprises, both musical and otherwise, planned for Thursday night.

Earlier in the week, country artists Mickey Guyton and Jason Isbell performed on Monday, while R&B icon Patti LaBelle and rapper Common took the stage on Tuesday.

The convention’s roll call on Tuesday featured music by artists from their respective states and territories. Rapper Lil Jon surprised the audience with a performance of his song “Turn Down for What” during Georgia’s portion of the roll call.

Singer-songwriter James Taylor was initially slated to perform on the convention’s opening night but was ultimately removed from the schedule due to delays.

The event has also seen celebrity presentations, including Oprah Winfrey’s unexpected speech, director Spike Lee participating with New York Democrats to cast the state’s 298 delegate votes for Vice President Kamala Harris, and actor Eva Longoria speaking on behalf of the Texas delegates during the roll call.
