Actress, author, and podcaster Anna Faris is set to address graduates at Seattle University’s undergraduate commencement ceremony on June 16 at Climate Pledge Arena. Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell will also take the stage, delivering remarks at the graduate ceremony.

Seattle University President Eduardo Peñalver expressed excitement about honoring both Faris and Mayor Harrell, noting that their contributions resonate with the Jesuit educational mission of the university. He emphasized the anticipation for a joyous celebration for graduates and their families.

Faris, who graduated from Edmonds-Woodway High School and the University of Washington, is celebrated for her impressive range as an actress, appearing in iconic films such as the Scary Movie series, Lost in Translation, and Brokeback Mountain. She is also known for her role in the popular TV shows Mom and Friends and will be featured in the upcoming film Spa Weekend. In addition to her acting career, Faris is a philanthropist and authored the bestselling memoir, Unqualified. Her involvement with charities like the Global Alliance to Prevent Prematurity and Stillbirth highlights her commitment to social issues in the community.

Mayor Harrell, serving since 2021, has focused on innovation and addressing homelessness in Seattle, advocating for public safety across diverse communities. As the city’s first Asian American and biracial mayor, he has made significant strides in leadership, having previously held various roles in the Seattle City Council. His commitment to creating a unified city under the principle of One Seattle underscores his dedication to inclusivity and community engagement.

This commencement ceremony promises to be a momentous occasion, celebrating not just the achievements of graduates but also the enduring spirit of community and progress in Seattle.
