The No. 2 Stanford Cardinal secured a narrow 1-0 victory over the Cal State Fullerton Titans women’s soccer team on Sunday afternoon at Titan Stadium, thanks to an early goal in the third minute. Andrea Kitahata netted the decisive goal just over two minutes into the match with a shot that eluded the Titans’ goalkeeper, Ranson.
Despite facing a barrage of 27 shots from Stanford, Ranson displayed commendable skill with a career-high of 13 saves throughout the match. The Cardinals dominated possession and scoring opportunities, outshooting the Titans 27 to 5. The Titans’ defense managed to thwart many of Stanford’s attempts, with Ranson stepping in to handle any threats that got past the defense.
The Titans had a few chances to level the score but were unable to capitalize. One notable opportunity occurred in the 68th minute when a well-executed header went just wide. Another chance came in the 83rd minute, but the shot was hastily taken and went wide to the right.
Looking ahead, the Titans will begin their road trip against three consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference opponents. Their next game is scheduled for Thursday, August 29, against the Cal Golden Bears, with kickoff set for 4:00 PM at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley, California.
Ranson’s impressive performance with 13 saves ties her for the fourth most saves in a single game by a Titan goalkeeper, joining Suzy Strazzulla and Heidi Clauss in that distinction. She has now surpassed 200 saves in her career, bringing her total to 204 and placing her fourth on the all-time saves list for the Titans. Ranson will be without a teammate who is traveling to Colombia to compete in the U-20 World Cup as part of the Fiji U-20 National Team.
