The No. 2 Stanford Cardinal achieved a narrow 1-0 victory over the Cal State Fullerton Titans women’s soccer team on Sunday at Titan Stadium, thanks to an early goal. Andrea Kitahata scored just three minutes into the match, delivering Stanford’s first shot that barely slipped over the Titans’ goalkeeper Ranson’s glove. Ranson exhibited remarkable skill after that moment, achieving a career-high of 13 saves against Stanford’s 27 shots.
Stanford maintained control of the game, dominating possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities. The Titans managed only five shots throughout the match but put up a strong defensive effort, with Ranson consistently mitigating potential threats. The Titans did see a few scoring chances, notably in the 68th minute from a set piece that went wide and another rushed shot in the 83rd minute.
Looking ahead, the Titans will continue their challenge against tough opponents as they prepare for their first road game of the season against the Cal Golden Bears on August 29, with kickoff scheduled for 4:00 PM at Edwards Stadium in Berkeley, California. Ranson’s 13 saves ranked as the fourth most for a Titan goalkeeper in a single match, and she has surpassed 200 career saves, totaling 204, placing her fourth on the all-time list.
Additionally, the Titans will be missing a key player who will be participating in the U-20 World Cup in Colombia with the Fiji U-20 National Team.
