The Tailevu Rugby Union has made a significant leap forward with the announcement of a $10,000 sponsorship deal from Standard Concrete Industries, along with its premium brand Humes. This partnership will allow the Tailevu Rugby Football Union to officially compete under the name Standard Concrete Tailevu Rugby Football Union for the remainder of the 2025 Skipper Cup and Marama Cup competitions. The men’s senior team will be known as Standard Concrete Tailevu, while the women’s side will take the name Humes Tailevu.
Joseph Rodan Snr, president of the Tailevu Rugby Union, emphasized that this partnership is not merely financial support but serves as a foundation for long-term growth in grassroots rugby. The sponsorship aims to nurture talent among young men and women and create structured pathways that align with the Union’s Business Plan for 2025-2030. Rodan stated, “This partnership empowers us to invest in grassroots rugby, nurture the talents of young men and women, and create structured career pathways that align with our 2025–2030 Business Plan. It is about building champions on and off the field for the province of Tailevu and Fiji at large.”
Standard Concrete is recognized as Fiji’s leading supplier of precast and concrete solutions, and their sponsorship aligns directly with the Tailevu Rugby Union’s focus on player development and increased opportunities in rugby for women and local communities.
In conjunction with this announcement, the Tailevu Rugby Union is gearing up for their upcoming match against Lautoka at Churchill Park. The Under-20s will take the field first at 1 PM, followed by the main game at 3 PM. This excitement feeds into a busy weekend of rugby, with other matches including Macuata facing Malolo at Subrails Park, Ba clashing with Vatukoula at Garvey Park, and Nadroga hosting Nadi at Lawaqa Park, while Naitasiri will meet Suva at Naluwai Ground.
The recent string of sponsorships for Tailevu Rugby not only enhances the financial stability of the Union but also elevates the profile of rugby in the region, encouraging participation and fostering community engagement. As local businesses invest in sports, there is a hopeful outlook for the future of rugby in Tailevu, with aspirations toward grassroots development and unifying the community through sport.
