Sylvester Stallone recently reminisced about his iconic film “Demolition Man” during a candid conversation with GQ, expressing his enthusiasm for the cult classic. Known for its unique blend of action and sci-fi elements, “Demolition Man” features Stallone as John Spartan, a cryogenically frozen Los Angeles cop who is revived to take down a crime lord.

Reflecting on the movie, Stallone stated, “I think it was a great movie. It’s one of the few films that really [holds] up.” He commented on the film’s portrayal of society, calling it a precursor to modern trends with what he termed the “gentilization of society.” Stallone praised the film for its relevance even today, noting its contemporary sensibilities.

He also paid tribute to Wesley Snipes, his co-star who played the villain Simon Phoenix. “Wesley was wild, he’s a wild man,” Stallone noted, acknowledging Snipes’ high energy and fighting prowess. “He really dug down there and gave a very memorable character,” he added, highlighting Snipes’ unique style that contributed to the film’s lasting impact.

Stallone shared intriguing behind-the-scenes anecdotes, revealing a couple of harrowing experiences while filming. He praised the film’s practical set design, which included what he described as “the two most dangerous stunts” he has ever attempted. One such stunt involved him being confined in a round tub made of thick plexiglass that was bolted shut. As warm oil was poured inside, he found himself in a precarious situation. Fortunately, crew members came to the rescue with sledgehammers and hatchets, preventing what could have been a near-death experience.

As “Demolition Man” continues to resonate with audiences, the question remains: where does it stand in Stallone’s extensive filmography? With its engaging narrative and compelling performances, it undoubtedly remains a significant highlight in his career, maintaining its charm even as we approach 2025.
