Spurs Trim Camp Trio Ahead of Season Opener

The San Antonio Spurs have officially announced the release of Adam Flagler, Micha Potter, and Stanley Umude, each of whom was waived on Saturday. This move was anticipated as the team concludes its preseason and prepares for the opening night of the 2025/26 NBA season.

All three players were signed to Exhibit 10 contracts, commonly known as training camp deals, and their departures align with the team’s roster limitations. The Spurs, which can maintain up to 21 players during the offseason, must reduce their roster to a maximum of 18 — consisting of 15 standard contracts and three two-way contracts — prior to the season’s start. By waiving these players, San Antonio is now in compliance with league regulations.

In terms of performance during preseason, the players struggled to secure a spot, with Flagler showing the most promise by demonstrating his capabilities as a shooting guard. However, despite his skills, he was unable to outperform his competition. Potter and Umude, meanwhile, had less impactful showings, making their exits less surprising. It is likely that all three will join the Austin Spurs to further develop their skills in hopes of eventually landing a role in the NBA.

Looking ahead to the Spurs’ opening night roster, it appears nearly finalized barring any unforeseen changes. Bismack Biyombo, who is on a non-guaranteed deal, is expected to remain, while Lindy Waters III has done enough to maintain his place as a bench shooter despite having only a partial guarantee on his contract. Both Biyombo’s and Waters’ contracts will become fully guaranteed on January 10, 2026. Currently, David Jones-Garcia, Riley Minix, and Harrison Ingram hold the team’s two-way contracts.

As of now, the Spurs’ depth chart includes:

– PG: De’Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper, Jordan McLaughlin
– SG: Stephon Castle, Lindy Waters III, David Jones-Garcia (TW)
– SF: Devin Vassell, Julian Champagnie, Carter Bryant, Riley Minix (TW)
– PF: Harrison Barnes, Keldon Johnson, Jeremy Sochan, Harrison Ingram (TW)
– C: Victor Wembanyama, Luke Kornet, Kelly Olynyk, Bismack Biyombo

The Spurs are gearing up for their season opener against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, October 22, marking the official start of their new campaign. With a strong mix of youthful talent and experienced veterans, San Antonio fans have much to look forward to as the team aims to make a significant impact this season.
