Springsteen’s Bold 2024 Presidential Endorsement: Why He Supports Harris and Walz

Bruce Springsteen, renowned for his iconic song “Born to Run,” has officially endorsed Kamala Harris for the presidency in the 2024 election. The announcement came on Thursday through a video shared on Instagram, where Springsteen filmed himself in a diner, possibly located in New Jersey.

In his video, Springsteen addressed inquiries from both the media and fans regarding his political stance. “With full knowledge that my opinion is no more or less important than those of any of my fellow citizens, here’s my answer: I’m supporting Kamala Harris for president and Tim Walz for vice president, and opposing Donald Trump and JD Vance,” he stated.

The musician’s progressive political stance is well-documented; he previously supported Joe Biden during the 2020 election, endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016, and has been a vocal critic of Donald Trump, even prohibiting the use of his songs at Trump’s rallies.

Springsteen elaborated on his reasons for backing the Harris-Walz ticket, emphasizing their dedication to inclusivity and economic growth that benefits all Americans. He expressed concern over Trump, labeling him as “the most dangerous candidate for president in my lifetime.” Springsteen criticized Trump’s disregard for the Constitution, democracy, and the peaceful transition of power, arguing that such disrespect should disqualify him from holding office again. He remarked on the current political climate, stating, “Perhaps not since the Civil War has this great country felt as politically, spiritually, and emotionally divided as it does than at this moment. It doesn’t have to be this way.”

His endorsement follows a wave of celebrity endorsements for Harris. Some, like Chappell Roan, expressed their support publicly, while others, such as Shonda Rhimes, backed Harris immediately after her nomination as the Democratic candidate.

In closing, Springsteen reaffirmed his belief in Harris and Walz as representatives of the America he envisions and conveyed the importance of voting. “Now, everybody sees things different, and I respect your choice as a fellow citizen. But like you, I’ve only got one vote, and it’s one of the most precious possessions that I have. That’s why come November 5, I’ll be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Thanks for listening.”
