LAS VEGAS — Firefighters are investigating the cause of a significant fire that erupted within a building at a shopping center in Chinatown Las Vegas, involving 80 crew members who worked diligently to extinguish the blaze.
The incident started just before 6 a.m. at the Spring Mountain Square shopping center, located at 3755 Spring Mountain Road. The fire was particularly intense at The Halal Guys restaurant. Emergency responders quickly initiated a search for any potential victims and implemented an offensive fire attack. However, as the blaze spread to the attic space and caused the roof to cave in, the Clark County Fire Department (CCFD) shifted to a defensive strategy to tackle the flames.
The CCFD received assistance from Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, North Las Vegas Fire Department, NV Energy, and Southwest Gas. Firefighters suspect that one or possibly two gas lines contributed to the difficulty in containing the fire. Fortunately, the fire was contained to just one restaurant, and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and damage assessments have yet to be released. Nearby businesses, including Krung Siam Restaurant, have already felt the impact, with Krung Siam announcing a “temporary” closure on social media while apologizing for any disruptions.
Business owners, like Rann Mojica of iRepair Wireless, expressed their concerns as access to Valley View Road and the parking lot was restricted for about an hour after the incident. Mojica noted the chaotic parking situation, stating that customers struggled to find space as many spots were blocked.
The timing of the fire is particularly challenging, as the weeks surrounding Christmas and New Year are among the busiest times for local businesses. Krung Siam had planned to remain open during this busy period and was gearing up for a New Year’s celebration.
Inquiries made by FOX5 to Krung Siam regarding any damages and impacts to utilities received no immediate response. Similarly, attempts to gather information from Halal Guys about the cause of the fire were unsuccessful.
The situation remains fluid as firefighters and investigators work to assess the full extent of the damage and stability of the affected structure.
