Spotify Surveying Artists: A Step Towards Improvement or Just Lip Service?

Spotify is reaching out to artists and their teams through online surveys to gather feedback on the Spotify For Artists platform. The objective is to gain insights into how users interact with the service and to explore ways to enhance their experience.

The survey includes standard questions regarding the participants’ roles—such as artist, label, or marketer—along with inquiries about their familiarity with key features and their usage of the platform. Additionally, it poses more significant questions, such as:

“To what extent do you agree or disagree with the statement: ‘The money I earn from Spotify is a significant portion of my overall income from music’?”

Another question asks: “To what extent do you agree or disagree with the statement: ‘Having my music included in editorial playlists is important to me’?”

Despite Spotify’s attempt to solicit candid feedback by addressing challenging issues, it is unlikely that any negative responses will lead to changes in the company’s payment structures or playlist strategies. Furthermore, it seems unlikely that Spotify will disclose the survey results to the public.
