Spirit Airlines is set to expand its services to Middle Georgia Regional Airport (MCN) in Macon, Georgia, marking this as the first destination under its new partnership with Contour Airlines. Starting October 16, travelers can book twice-weekly flights between Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and MCN on an Airbus A320-family aircraft, with introductory fares beginning at $49.99 one-way.
As part of this collaboration, Contour will provide ground services for Spirit at MCN. This move comes as part of a broader effort to enhance air connectivity to underserved communities throughout the U.S. Since the announcement of the partnership in May, Spirit has committed to introducing flights to several of Contour’s Essential Air Service (EAS) markets, thereby expanding options for passengers looking to travel from major leisure destinations.
Additionally, MCN will join Atlanta and Savannah as Spirit’s third destination in Georgia. Contour already connects MCN with Dulles International Airport (IAD) near Washington, D.C., providing reliable service options that are vital for the region.
This partnership is significant for Spirit, especially as it comes on the heels of the airline’s restructuring process after emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March. The airline has reworked its operations, reducing its fleet and overall seats in response to shifting market demands.
While the alliance aims to broaden air service, it does not include a connection to Spirit’s Free Spirit loyalty program, which might come as a disappointment to frequent flyers hoping for dual benefits.
Overall, this development introduces more travel options for residents and visitors in Middle Georgia, enhancing connectivity and potentially boosting local tourism and economy.
