Spike Lee’s upcoming film “Highest 2 Lowest” is set to premiere in theaters on August 22, 2023. The renowned director and avid Knicks supporter recently appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to discuss the film and the performances within it.
During the interview, Lee commended A$AP Rocky’s acting prowess, noting how he holds his own in scenes with the legendary Denzel Washington. Lee playfully remarked, “Yeah, don’t sleep on A$AP. In this film, Denzel and A$AP go toe-to-toe.” He highlighted a unique dynamic owing to the striking resemblance between A$AP Rocky and Washington, suggesting that it adds a deeper layer to their on-screen relationship, which reflects a father-son bond.
Lee shared his experiences working with Washington in previous films, expressing that it’s common for other actors to feel overwhelmed when sharing the screen with such a powerful presence. However, he emphasized that A$AP Rocky stood his ground, showcasing his capability to match Denzel’s intensity in scenes.
“Highest 2 Lowest” is described as a fresh take on Akira Kurosawa’s iconic 1963 noir film “High and Low.” Produced by A24 and Apple, the movie features Rocky as Yung Felony, the son of Washington’s character, who runs a respected record label called Stackin Hits. The storyline unfolds in New York City and delves into the world of aspiring musicians, with Rocky’s character looking to make a name for himself in the rap industry.
Fans can look forward to seeing “Highest 2 Lowest” in theaters soon, followed by its availability on AppleTV+ starting September 5. This film reflects a blend of talent and storytelling that brings together two dynamic artists from different backgrounds.
