Spain’s Coach Questions Flick on Lamine Yamal Remarks

Luis de la Fuente has voiced his confusion over Hansi Flick’s remarks regarding Spain’s handling of Lamine Yamal during his international duty. Flick expressed concern that Yamal returned from international play with an injury, subsequently impacting his availability for Barcelona. In response, De la Fuente stated he did not understand Flick’s comments, particularly considering Flick’s own experience as a national team coach.

“I didn’t understand him because, among other things, he’s also been a national team coach. I didn’t understand it,” De la Fuente remarked during an interview on El Hormiguero. He also expressed his frustration with clubs that criticize national teams for player injuries sustained while representing their countries. “Sometimes I don’t understand the clubs’ position either… it’s unfair to accuse the players when all of them want to be part of the national team,” he added.

Despite the controversy, De la Fuente took the opportunity to commend Yamal’s professionalism and dedication. “Lamine Yamal is not a rascal; he’s a very hardworking kid,” he praised. The Spain coach emphasized the significance of recognizing the achievements of such a young player, especially as Yamal made his debut at just 16 years old.

De la Fuente’s comments highlight the increased pressure young athletes face while balancing club and national commitments. The support for Yamal reflects not just an endorsement of his talent, but also a recognition of his ability to handle the pressures of top-level football effectively. This positive outlook on the young player’s potential heralds a promising future for both Yamal and the Spanish national team.
