Snow caused significant disruptions in southwestern Minnesota on Wednesday, leading to multiple highways being blocked by overturned semis in the afternoon. As the area faced deteriorating visibility, the Minnesota Department of Transportation reported that snow was accumulating on roads across the Twin Cities just ahead of the evening commute.

By 6 p.m., the agency lifted the “no travel” advisories that had been in effect for much of southwestern Minnesota. These advisories had been put in place due to blowing snow and poor visibility that affected a large portion of the region throughout the afternoon. Despite the advisory being lifted, MnDOT warned motorists to remain cautious. “Drivers should drive according to conditions when traveling as many roads remain snow or ice covered with reduced visibility, particularly in open areas without windbreaks,” stated the release.

Motorists are encouraged to check travel conditions via the 511mn.org website for real-time updates. A notable visual of the conditions was captured by KARE 11 digital producer Felicity Dachel, who shared a photo from I-94, showcasing a complete white-out where the Minneapolis skyline should have been visible near Cedar-Riverside. The situation underscores the importance of preparedness and caution during winter weather, and as the region continues to receive snow, it highlights the resilience of local communities as they navigate challenging travel conditions.
