A Winter Weather Advisory is currently in place for all of southeastern Michigan, lasting until 1:00 p.m. today. As residents prepare for their day, they should be advised about the current weather conditions impacting the region.

This Wednesday morning, commuters in Metro Detroit should expect snowy conditions, particularly between the hours of 5 a.m. and 11 a.m., when the heaviest snowfall is forecasted. Accumulations of 2 to 3 inches are likely along the I-94 and I-69 corridors, with some areas potentially reaching 4 inches. In contrast, regions south of I-94 and north of I-69 can anticipate 1 to 2 inches of snow. Those traveling during the morning hours should brace for winter driving conditions that may lead to slower travel times. Today’s high temperatures are expected to hover in the low 30s.

As the day progresses into the evening, snow showers will continue, with added accumulations of 1 to 2 inches possible tonight and into Thursday. Following this weather pattern, a significant arctic air mass will sweep into Southeast Michigan from Friday through the weekend. High temperatures are predicted to plummet into the single digits, specifically around 8 to 9 degrees. Overnight lows could dip below zero, particularly Friday night, with wind chills potentially feeling as cold as -15 degrees in the early morning hours. This cold spell marks the lowest temperatures the area has faced since January 31, 2019, when temperatures plummeted to -14 degrees.

As temperatures drop, residents can expect snow chances to persist. Lake-effect snow showers may develop over the weekend, with another potential accumulating snow event occurring Sunday night into early next week. The region is in for mostly cloudy, frigid conditions interspersed with bursts of snow before a slight warming trend is anticipated early next week.

For today, snowfall is expected to continue through midday, accumulating about 1 to 3 inches in most areas, with some counties like Oakland and Livingston possibly seeing up to 4 inches. Winds will be from the west-southwest at speeds of 10 to 25 mph, adding a chill to the air. Tonight’s lows will be in the low 20s with scattered snow showers and partly cloudy skies.

Looking ahead to Thursday, a partly sunny day is expected with temperatures stabilizing or dropping into the 20s, and there remains a slight chance for snow showers throughout the day. Wind speeds will increase to 15 to 25 mph from the west.
