South Korean Golfers Battle Midway Setbacks at AIG Women’s Open

South Korean golfers are facing challenges at the midway point of the AIG Women’s Open, the final major of the LPGA season, being held at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in Wales. Kim Sei-young and Kim A-lim are the top performers for South Korea, both tied for seventh place at three-under par after shooting rounds of 70 and 71, respectively, in the second round.

Leading the tournament is Japan’s Miyu Yamashita, who surged ahead with an impressive bogey-free round of 65. Rio Takeda, another Japanese contestant, sits in second place at eight-under, while four players follow closely at four-under par.

Kim Sei-young, a seasoned LPGA competitor with 12 wins and one major title, noted that while she played well overall, she repeated some mistakes from the previous day, particularly with her tee shots landing in bunkers. “What I can do is just focus on every shot,” she remarked, acknowledging the significant gap to the leader. Alongside her, Kim A-lim, also a notable player and former U.S. Women’s Open champion, recorded a score with four birdies and three bogeys in her second round.

An Narin is the only other South Korean golfer under par, sitting at one-under. Meanwhile, Chun In-gee and Yoon Ina, who performed well initially, faced difficulties in round two. Chun, a three-time major winner, posted a 76, which dropped her to a tie for 35th, while Yoon missed the cut entirely after an 80.

Despite the setbacks for some, there remains a sense of resilience as competitors aim to elevate their standings in the remaining rounds. With determination and focus, Kim Sei-young and her fellow golfers will look to turn things around as the tournament progresses.
