South Carolina’s Struggles Intensify in Humbling Defeat to Ole Miss

COLUMBIA — South Carolina football faced a disappointing defeat against No. 11 Ole Miss, suffering a 27-3 loss on Saturday. The Gamecocks (3-2, 2-1 SEC) struggled throughout the game, failing to score a touchdown for the first time since 2021. The Rebels (5-1, 1-1) capitalized on the opportunity to secure their first conference win this season at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Despite the return of quarterback LaNorris Sellers, South Carolina could only muster 162 passing yards and 145 rushing yards, while their defense allowed 425 total yards to the Ole Miss offense. The lack of offensive execution was evident as Sellers threw an interception in the end zone, missing a chance to score.

The scoring was dominated by Ole Miss from the start. In the first quarter, they established an early lead with a three-yard touchdown run by Henry Parrish Jr., taking advantage of a failed trick punt by South Carolina. The Rebels extended their lead with another touchdown later in the quarter, making it 14-0.

By halftime, the score stood at 24-3, with South Carolina managing only a field goal after a brief offensive effort. Throughout the game, missed opportunities and turnovers plagued the Gamecocks, including a fumble by Juice Wells in the end zone, which was ruled a touchback for Ole Miss.

As the game progressed, South Carolina’s attempts to mount a comeback were thwarted by continued struggles on both sides of the ball. The Gamecocks’ final offensive push saw Sellers come out, only for Robby Ashford to also falter.

This loss marks a challenging moment for South Carolina football as they prepare for their upcoming schedule, including a matchup against Alabama.
