Jerzy Robinson, a highly sought-after prospect and the No. 5 recruit in the 2026 class, has officially committed to the South Carolina women’s basketball team as of December 23. The 6-foot forward, who plays at Sierra Canyon High School in California, chose South Carolina over formidable competitors LSU and UConn, the latter being the defending national champions who dealt Coach Dawn Staley’s team two losses during the previous season. Robinson made her commitment announcement live on ESPN2, expressing a strong sense of belonging to the Gamecocks.

Reflecting on her decision, Robinson stated, “I feel like it’s home, it’s peace,” citing her experience during an official visit to South Carolina in late October as a pivotal moment. She attended the Gamecocks’ exhibition game on October 24, where she was seen cheering from behind the bench. The following day, she enjoyed a football game alongside Staley, current players, and A’ja Wilson, the remarkable Gamecocks alum who recently became the WNBA’s first four-time MVP.

With Robinson’s commitment, South Carolina has now secured its third recruit for the 2026 class and its fourth addition for the upcoming season. Alicia Tournebize, a 6-foot-7 player from France, announced her enrollment just a day prior on December 22. Other notable recruits include Kelsi Andrews, a 6-foot-4 center ranked No. 18, who committed on October 7, and Kaeli Wynn, a 6-foot-2 forward ranked No. 17, who announced her commitment on November 10.

Robinson stands out as the highest-ranked recruit for Coach Staley since Joyce Edwards, who was the No. 3 recruit in the 2023 class. This successful recruitment journey comes as Staley prepares to make adjustments for the 2026-27 roster, as several current players will not return. Among them are Ta’Niya Latson, Raven Johnson, Maryam Dauda, and Madina Okot, although Staley has expressed hopes of advocating for eligibility extensions for Okot.

On a positive note, Ashlyn Watkins has declared her intention to return for her senior year, while Chloe Kitts faces a decision to either return or enter the WNBA draft following her recovery from an ACL tear.

The Gamecocks’ ongoing success in securing top-tier talent underscores their competitive edge in women’s college basketball as they continue to build a promising future.
