Soto Shines as Mets Dominate Royals for Key Victory

Juan Soto’s impressive performance propelled the New York Mets to a 3-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday in Kansas City. Soto’s two-run homer, which soared into the right field fountains, marked the opening score in the fourth inning. This recent success brings Soto’s tally to nine home runs and 19 RBIs in his last 20 games, showcasing his potent offensive capabilities.

Mets pitcher Frankie Montas delivered a strong outing, going 5.2 innings while allowing just one run on four hits and striking out five. His ability to throw first-pitch strikes to 14 out of 19 batters helped set the tone for the game.

In the sixth inning, the Royals made an effort to close the gap with consecutive doubles from Kyle Isbel and Jonathan India, narrowing the Mets lead to 2-1. India had a notable performance, registering two doubles and contributing significantly to the Royals’ offense, which struggled throughout the series by going 1-for-17 with runners in scoring position in the initial two games.

Mets reliever Reed Garrett stepped in effectively, preventing further scoring by managing to retire the heart of the Royals lineup after allowing India to advance on a wild pickoff attempt. Jeff McNeil then added an insurance run with a two-out RBI single in the ninth inning, sealing the Mets’ victory.

Edwin Díaz also showcased his skills on the mound, allowing a walk while throwing two hitless innings to earn his 19th save of the season. Notably, Soto leads the major leagues with 77 walks, setting a record for the Mets prior to the All-Star break.

The Royals faced a challenge during the game as scheduled starter Michael Lorenzen missed the match due to illness, and Jonathan Bowlan, the second of six Royals bullpen pitchers, struggled against the formidable Mets lineup.

Looking ahead, the Mets will send RHP Clay Holmes to the mound for the final game of the series against Royals LHP Noah Cameron.

This victory could serve as a turning point for the Mets, who are showcasing their powerful lineup and solid pitching as they aim for a strong finish in their series.
