Sophie Turner, renowned for her role in Game of Thrones, has officially stepped into the iconic shoes of Lara Croft in the upcoming live-action Tomb Raider TV series. Unveiled by Amazon MGM Studios, the first official image of Turner as Croft captures the actress in a look reminiscent of the early days of the beloved video game franchise. In the stunning photo, Turner sports Croft’s signature style from the original 1996 game, complete with red-hued sunglasses, short shorts, a teal tank top, and her signature braided ponytail.

The series, developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, famous for her work on Fleabag, marks a new chapter for the Tomb Raider franchise, which has seen notable actresses, including Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, portray the character in previous adaptations. While filming for the show is currently underway, plot details remain tightly guarded. However, a glimpse of what to expect has emerged with the casting announcement, revealing an intriguing lineup of characters.

Joining Turner in this adventure are three-time Oscar nominee Sigourney Weaver, who will portray a mysterious character named Evelyn Wallis, and Harry Potter star Jason Isaacs, taking on the role of Atlas DeMornay, Croft’s uncle. Additionally, fans will recognize Bill Paterson as Winston, Croft’s quirky butler, and Celia Imrie as Francine, head of advancement at the British Museum, bringing fresh characters to the narrative.

The excitement surrounding the Tomb Raider series is palpable, and although a release date has yet to be confirmed, the anticipation is building as production progresses. The introduction of a talented cast alongside Turner suggests a promising adaptation that honors the legacy of the video game while introducing new elements for both fans and newcomers to enjoy. With the project already in motion, there is hope that this series will not only attract longtime fans but also capture the hearts of a new generation eager to explore the world of Lara Croft.
