Sophie Flay has officially joined ABC News as a correspondent and overnight anchor for World News Now and Good Morning America First Look. Flay, previously a general assignment reporter at ABC7/KABC-TV in Los Angeles since March 2019, is known for her impactful coverage, which included significant events like the Monterey Park mass shooting, the raid on Sean “Diddy” Combs’ home, the Oscars, and the Eaton Fire.
Starting this week, Flay will be based in New York and will report across various platforms of the network. Her role at World News Now and Good Morning America First Look is particularly significant, as these programs lead into local affiliates’ early morning broadcasts, highlighting the importance of timely news delivery in the early hours.
Flay is a proud graduate of the University of Southern California (USC) and has contributed to the academic community there as an adjunct professor. Importantly, she is also the daughter of renowned chef Bobby Flay, which adds a notable dimension to her public persona.
The leadership of the overnight programming is under the direction of executive producer Ken Kneeland and senior executive producer Simone Swink for both World News Now and Good Morning America, ensuring that Flay joins a well-structured team as she embarks on this new chapter in her journalism career.
