Sooner Dojo Series: Are You Ready to Compete This Fall?

The Sooner Dojo Series is set to kick off in Fall 2024, coinciding with the college football season. Every Friday during an OU Football home game weekend, fans will have the opportunity to participate in a pay-to-enter tournament. This marks the first semester of competition in the SEC and the beginning of a new football season, especially exciting with the release of a highly anticipated game by EA.

For the games leading up to the Tennessee matchup, participation will mainly consist of OU students and fans. From the Tennessee game onward, a more extensive marketing effort will be launched to create brackets that pit OU fans against those from other colleges, as teams strive to determine the best fans in the upcoming CFB25 games.

Currently, pre-registration for the tournaments is not available; participants can simply show up, pay their fees, and compete. Entry fees for the Tulane Game Weekend (September 14) will be set at $5 for the venue and $5 for the prize pot. Following this, for the Tennessee Game Weekend and onwards (starting September 20), the fees will increase to $10 for each category.

Additional details can be found on the Start.gg event page and the OU Events Page, which is actively being developed. The tournaments will be under the guidance of Jonathan “JTran” Tran as the organizer.

Participants aged 13 and older are welcome, and all ages can attend to watch. Payment will be accepted in cash and all major credit cards. There may also be additional pot bonuses made available through sponsorships. It’s important for participants to stay updated through the OU Gaming Club’s marketing as things evolve each week.

Payouts for the tournaments may vary based on bracket size and participant votes, following either a 60/30/10 split or a winner-take-all format. Full production support will be incorporated into the events as it becomes available, allowing for gameplay reviews and an esports-style competition experience.

For minors wishing to participate, a signed permission form is required, which must be filled out annually. Schools that are part of a sanctioned K-12 program are encouraged to contact esports@ou.edu with their documents to facilitate a smooth entry for their participants.

This series is hosted by the OU Gaming Club, and additional details can be found online.
