Sony’s Fairgame$ Faces Setbacks and Leadership Shake-Up

Sony has encountered significant challenges with its lineup of live service PlayStation games, as the multiplayer heist shooter Fairgame$ experiences a delay and undergoes leadership changes. Originally set for release in the fall of 2025, the game is now expected to launch in 2026 due to internal concerns regarding its development following an external test.

Fairgame$ is developed by Haven Studios, which was established in 2021 by former Google Stadia developers, including Jade Raymond, a prominent figure in the gaming industry known for her work on the Assassin’s Creed franchise. However, Raymond has recently departed from her role at Haven Studios, creating uncertainty about the game’s direction. Sony’s spokesperson expressed gratitude for her contributions and visionary leadership, wishing her well in her future endeavors.

The game was initially introduced during a PlayStation showcase in 2023, generating interest with its concept of class warfare and “emergent sandbox gameplay,” capturing elements reminiscent of Robin Hood meets Payday 2, tailored in a style akin to Ubisoft. Despite the setbacks, Sony aims to continue supporting Fairgame$, appointing Marie-Eve Danis and Pierre-François Sapinski as co-studio heads to steer the project forward.

This latest delay aligns with a series of setbacks in Sony’s live service strategy, following the cancellation of other projects, including The Last of Us Online and a God of War online spin-off. Nevertheless, the company’s commitment to Fairgame$ signals that it is not completely abandoning its ambitions in the multiplayer service space.

In light of these challenges, the gaming community remains hopeful for the future of Fairgame$, with users eager to see how the new leadership at Haven Studios navigates the development process. This could provide an opportunity for innovation and an improved gaming experience, reflecting the unpredictability and potential for growth within the gaming industry.
