Sonu Nigam’s Kashmir Concert Pauses for Azaan as He Launches Seven-City Satrangi Re Tour

Renowned playback singer Sonu Nigam recently performed at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convocation Complex (SKICC) in Kashmir, a significant event marking the first major concert in the region since the Pahalgam attack. Set against the stunning backdrop of Dal Lake and the Zabarwan Mountains, the performance served as a tribute not only to the legendary Mohammad Rafi but also to the beauty of Kashmir itself. Despite calls for a boycott, with Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah opting to stay away, the concert received support from Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who emphasized its potential to enhance tourism in the Valley. One of the standout moments of the evening was when Nigam paused the concert to allow the evening azaan to be heard, which quickly garnered attention on social media, reigniting discussions surrounding his previous remarks on religious loudspeakers.

This concert coincided with Nigam’s launch of his seven-city ‘Satrangi Re’ tour, organized by NR Talent & Event Management and BookMyShow. The tour, starting in Mumbai, will also take him to Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, Ahmedabad, Shillong, and Delhi, aiming to connect profoundly with audiences across various locations.

In a recent interview, Nigam shared his motivations for touring after years of performing on substantial stages globally. He expressed that for passionate artists like himself, concerts are more than just performances; they are reunions with a musical family, fostering a deeper connection. He described ‘Satrangi Re’ as a meticulously curated experience for music lovers, representing a new chapter in his career.

Nigam was also honored with the 40th Lata Mangeshkar Award, an accolade he cherishes as validation from his artistic roots. However, he remains grounded in his belief that awards do not define an artist but can provide encouragement to continue pursuing art with humility.

His latest single, “Kahani Meri,” blends Hindustani and Carnatic music styles. Created as a personal tribute on his birthday, it diverges from mainstream trends, showcasing an essence he describes as purity and individuality.

Reflecting on the evolving playback industry, Nigam remarked on the influx of talented composers, lyricists, and singers that keep the landscape vibrant and exciting. Addressing the impact of artificial intelligence in music, he emphasized the importance of maintaining the human soul in creative processes, suggesting that AI should act as a helper rather than replace human artistry.

Nigam also touched on the shift in music consumption driven by algorithms, admitting he finds it too early to assess its long-term implications. While he values how algorithms can suggest music aligned with his tastes, he expressed nostalgia for the past when music was more of a personal, intentional experience for listeners.

Sonu Nigam’s journey through the music industry reflects not only his adaptability to change but also his commitment to authenticity and emotional depth in an ever-evolving landscape. His recent activities and insights offer a hopeful perspective on the future of music, as he and many artists strive to maintain that intimate connection with audiences.
