Magic: The Gathering is expanding its horizons with another exciting crossover. Following previous collaborations with popular franchises like SpongeBob and Deadpool, the game will soon introduce a new Sonic the Hedgehog-themed Secret Lair. This release will feature three distinct drops, with the first, called Turbo Gear, set to launch on July 14.
The Turbo Gear drop puts a creative spin on seven cards, reimagining existing Magic cards with new Sonic-themed artwork and names. Notable cards include Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves, aptly adjusted to relate to Sonic’s character. Additionally, the legendary vehicle card Weatherlight has been transformed into Tornado, Sonic’s biplane. There’s even a token card, further enriching the collection.
Wizards of the Coast has stated that this drop will align with another Sonic-focused release that features characters, enhancing gameplay trends previously established in other tie-ins such as the Tomb Raider crossover. This design aims to help players craft their own unique Commander decks, providing a customizable experience reminiscent of past entries.
The Turbo Gear Secret Lair will be available for purchase at 9 AM PT on the Secret Lair website, priced at $29.99 for the non-foil version and $39.99 for foil. Given the popularity of previous releases, interested players should act quickly to secure these limited-edition cards before they sell out.
This collaboration not only showcases the evolving creativity within Magic: The Gathering but also appeals to both fanbases, offering a novel way to enjoy card gaming through the lens of beloved pop culture icons.
