The Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) has announced a groundbreaking initiative to empower young individuals by offering 10 candidates the opportunity to participate in the upcoming general election. This significant decision was revealed by Party Leader and Education Minister Aseri Radrodro at the annual general meeting of SODELPA Youth, attended by over 300 enthusiastic young participants eager to discuss their future in Fiji.
In his address, Mr. Radrodro stressed the vital roles of education, discipline, and leadership in equipping the youth for the future. He underscored SODELPA’s commitment to providing young people with proper educational and employment opportunities. The minister pointed out recent accomplishments of the Coalition government, such as the abolishment of student loans and the introduction of scholarships, which aim to ensure accessibility to quality education for all students and support lifelong learning.
Mr. Radrodro reiterated SODELPA’s intention to engage youth in leadership and decision-making processes, with the allocation of 10 seats to youth candidates serving as a testament to this commitment. He highlighted the party’s enduring legacy of over 20 years advocating for equitable opportunities in education, business, and employment.
Moreover, he called on the youth to embody responsible citizenship by avoiding substance misuse and health risks like HIV, while also encouraging them to support their peers in education. The meeting also marked the election of a new board, with Ratu Tevita Momoedonu stepping in as President, alongside Vice Presidents Angeline Tikoitoga and Joshua Gaunavinaka.
These initiatives reflect SODELPA’s renewed dedication to youth inclusion and engagement in shaping Fiji’s political landscape. As the party gears up for the 2026 elections, its focus on empowering young voices and fostering community involvement offers a promising vision for the future of governance, nurturing a spirit of optimism among both members and constituents.
