The Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua (SODELPA) is poised for a significant transformation as it embarks on a journey of rebuilding and reconnection, according to Party Secretary Simione Rasova. He emphasized that despite years of political challenges, the party remains “alive and thriving.”
Rasova highlighted that the rise of the People’s Alliance has inadvertently catalyzed changes within SODELPA, which is now dedicated to renewing and fortifying its foundational values. In a recent social media post, Rasova expressed confidence, stating, “We find solace in knowing that our rebuilding efforts and processes are now underway.”
Central to this revival is a renewed focus on reconnecting with longtime supporters from the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SDL) era, particularly those who aligned with former Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase, a key figure associated with their “Prisoner 302” legacy. These connections are critical as SODELPA reaches out to communities, including Fiji’s largest informal settlements, reinforcing the party’s commitment to serving its members and the broader populace.
Rasova characterized SODELPA’s involvement in the Coalition Government as a pivotal milestone that showcases the party’s potential. He underscored the party’s evolution since its establishment in 2001, noting their growth in strength despite adversity. He expressed optimism for the future, stating, “SODELPA remains committed to its mission and to the people of Fiji, without malice.”
This rebuilding effort aligns with SODELPA’s broader aims as they prepare for upcoming elections, including the 2025 Municipal Elections and 2026 National General Elections. Recent articles have shown that SODELPA’s leadership changes, including the appointment of Ratu Filimoni Soqeta as president and the election of new vice presidents, reflect a youthful and forward-thinking governance approach.
The passion and enthusiasm displayed during recent gatherings, including an annual general meeting that attracted over 300 members, highlight a strong desire for SODELPA to step into significant governance roles in the near future. This active engagement is indicative of a hopeful outlook for Fiji’s political landscape, as SODELPA positions itself to tackle voter concerns and promote dynamic change across the nation.
As the party continues on its path of renewal, its focus on enhancing connections with grassroots supporters is expected to not only reinvigorate its base but also resonate positively with the electorate, paving the way for a transformative impact on governance in Fiji.
