Snoop Dogg’s Hilarious Cameo in Pharrell’s Animated Biopic Revealed!

Snoop Dogg has been a dominant presence in 2024, making waves from his viral moments at the Paris Summer Olympics to joining the judges’ panel on Season 26 of The Voice. Recently, he has garnered attention for his role in one of the most amusing scenes in Focus Features’ animated biopic, Piece By Piece, which tells the story of artist Pharrell Williams.

Directed by Oscar winner Morgan Neville, the film features a clever sequence depicting the day Snoop Dogg and his entourage arrived at Pharrell’s studio, marking a significant moment in music history. In an interview with NBC Insider, Neville discussed the humor and creativity behind this memorable scene.

Snoop Dogg collaborated with Pharrell and Chad Hugo, known as the Neptunes, in 2004, seeking to diversify his sound. Together, they co-created the iconic track “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” incorporating a distinctive mouth-click percussion loop that became one of Snoop’s most famous hits.

Neville and his team approached the adult themes related to Snoop’s lifestyle with humor. A visual gag in the film light-heartedly addresses the smoke surrounding Snoop and his crew as LEGO Pharrell and Chad neutralize the atmosphere with a fictional “PG spray,” keeping the content suitable for families.

Neville expressed that the scene creatively resolved several challenges the team faced. The animation allowed them to depict the moment of creation for “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” making it feel immersive. He emphasized a commitment to maintaining a PG rating for the film, which led to the humorous solution of the PG spray to address the smoke issue.

Piece By Piece is currently playing in theaters.
