As “Saturday Night Live” prepares for its milestone 50th season, it has revealed the addition of three new cast members. However, Chloe Troast, a native of Bergen County, will not be returning for this significant season.
On Monday, Troast took to Instagram to share that her departure from the show was not by choice. “Unfortunately, I was not asked back to SNL this season. I wish I was going to be with all the amazing friends I made there; it truly felt like home. But it wasn’t in the cards,” her statement read.
Troast expressed gratitude to those who supported her during her time on SNL and throughout her summer tour, which spanned 10 cities across the country. “I hope I was able to spread joy and laughter, all love. Onwards and upwards,” she added.
At 27 years old, Troast hails from Ho-Ho-Kus and is a 2015 graduate of Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale. She began her career in local comedy clubs before making her official debut on “Saturday Night Live” during the season 49 premiere on October 15 of last year.
Following her Instagram announcement, Troast has received over 1,900 comments from fans, fellow comedians, and various pop culture figures, many expressing disbelief that she was not invited back to the storied late-night show. One fan remarked, “I’ve been watching SNL since the first season in 1975. I didn’t think I’ve ever been more surprised by a cast member not being asked back. You made your mark, and I look forward to whatever comes next.”
Another commenter said, “Honestly, you were the only reason I kept watching SNL last season … ready to follow you on your next adventure.”
As her summer tour concludes and her SNL tenure wraps up, fans are left wondering about Troast’s next steps. As of Tuesday, September 10, no future shows or events have been announced on her social media platforms.
The 50th season of “Saturday Night Live” is set to premiere on September 28, with a special anniversary episode planned for February 16. The newcomers to the cast include Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim, and Jane Wickline. The show airs Saturday nights at 11:30 p.m. on NBC and is available for streaming on Peacock.
