Snap Count Surprises: Chargers vs. Steelers Analysis

This week’s snap counts from the Chargers-Steelers game reveal some noteworthy statistics.

On Offense, Joe Alt played every snap despite exiting the game with an injury, joined by Zion Johnson and Bradley Bozeman. Trey Pipkins, who had to shift to left tackle after Rashawn Slater’s injury, was on the field for all but one snap. Jamaree Salyer made his season debut at right guard, contributing 17 snaps. Simi Fehoko matched Ladd McConkey’s snap count with both playing 33 snaps, while Quentin Johnston led the group with 37. In the backfield, J.K. Dobbins had 30 snaps compared to Justice Edwards’ 16. Among tight ends, Hayden Hurst took the lead with 28 snaps over Will Dissly’s 23.

On the Defense, an unusual five Chargers defenders logged 100 percent of the snaps, primarily from the secondary and linebacker Daiyan Henley. With Junior Colson absent, Troy Dye filled in for eight snaps, affecting Denzel Perryman’s snap count. Bud Dupree stepped up with 41 snaps as edge rusher due to Joey Bosa’s early exit, while Khalil Mack led the edge rusher group with 51 snaps, and Tuli Tuipulotu followed with 48. Elijah Molden, even with Alohi Gilman back, recorded 32 snaps. In the interior defensive line, Poona Ford and Morgan Fox led with 47 and 38 snaps, respectively, while Otito Ogbonnia had 30. Teair Tart, who fans were eager to see, only played 12 snaps and hasn’t seen an increase in playing time over the past three games.

On Special Teams, the Chargers’ special teams experienced significant activity, especially the punt coverage team, as the team faced three-and-out situations five times during nine total drives. They ended up punting seven times and succeeded in only one field goal attempt.
