Arne Slot expressed that he was unjustly given a yellow card by referee Anthony Taylor during today’s match. The Dutch manager received the booking for dissent in the second half after becoming irritated with the host team’s attempts to slow down the game by going down for treatment.
At that point in the match, Liverpool was trailing 2-1 but managed to level the score with a late equalizer from Mohamed Salah. This marked Slot’s second yellow card of the season, putting him just one card away from a potential touchline suspension.
“Last time, I said I completely deserved the yellow card (against Chelsea). This time I don’t think I did,” Slot commented.
He noted that there were multiple instances where players were on the ground, which can happen in football. However, he felt that players frequently went down after regaining possession of the ball, disrupting the game’s flow.
Slot recounted telling Ibou Konate, “This is a ****ing joke.” He clarified that the fourth official, Sam Barrott, misinterpreted his comment as directed at him, which led to the yellow card. “That’s definitely not what I said. I got a yellow for that, so now I’m on two and I have to be careful,” he said.
