Two Fijian men are among six individuals facing charges in relation to a major cocaine seizure that took place in Vatia, Tavua, last week. This group, which also includes four Ecuadorian nationals, appeared before Magistrate Timoci Qaninauci at the Rakiraki Magistrates Court.
The Ecuadorian nationals charged are Alejandro Juvenal Yagual Gonzalez, 47, Luciano Enrique Mero Sanchez, 47, Jonathan Javier Solorzano Bermello, 30, and Ramon Isidro Vega Parraga, 52. The Fijian defendants are Bainivalu Suguturaga, 24, from Veisaru, Ba, and Munendra, a 32-year-old carrier operator from Ba.
The Ecuadorians have been advised to obtain legal representation, while Suguturaga is being represented by Filimoni Daveta and Munendra by Mohammed Yunus. All six suspects have been remanded in custody and are set to appear again in the Lautoka High Court on February 4.
This case sheds light on the ongoing challenges related to drug trafficking in the region. However, it also reflects law enforcement’s commitment to tackling illegal drug activities head-on. The support of the community and heightened vigilance are crucial components in the fight against drug-related issues, fostering hope for a more secure future in the area.
