Avery Skinner, a standout outside hitter, proudly represents the U.S. at international volleyball competitions, and this time she shares the spotlight with her sister, Madisen Skinner. The duo’s dynamic was evident during the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, where they helped secure a silver medal for Team USA.
As the U.S. prepares for the 2025 Women’s Volleyball Nations League (VNL), both sisters have been selected to join the national squad along with another Olympian. This marks their second consecutive year playing together in the VNL, where they aim to clinch a medal after a four-year drought.
Avery spoke about their unique bond on the court, emphasizing the ease of communication between them, saying, “When we’re on the court, I don’t feel any different than any other teammate. Obviously, you have that little sister telekinesis, we probably know what each other’s thinking.” She added that while she treats Madisen like any teammate, having her sister around provides a comforting sense of familiarity, especially during competitive situations.
While Madisen has recently enjoyed a successful debut season with LOVB Austin, Avery has been competing for Chieri ‘76 in Italy. Despite the distance, Avery remains an enthusiastic supporter of her sister’s matches, often waking up early to catch her games.
The family’s commitment to each other and their sport not only strengthens their personal relationship but also enhances their performance on the international stage. As they look forward to the upcoming VNL, the Skinner sisters embody the resilience and spirit of teamwork that is central to the sport.
As they take on this new challenge, fans will be watching closely, hopeful for a triumphant return to the podium for Team USA.
