PHILADELPHIA – Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was caught on camera responding passionately to a group of fans following Sunday’s 20-16 victory over the Cleveland Browns. The Eagles faced some criticism from the home crowd as they struggled to pull away from the 1-5 Browns in a game marked by inconsistent offensive performance.
Sirianni, who sported a sly smile and winked, stated he was simply “excited to get the win” and praised the enthusiastic crowd for contributing to several Cleveland false-start penalties. However, he also acknowledged the impact of the boos from fans, stating, “We thrive off the crowd when they cheer for us. That’s all I’ll say. We hear them when they boo. We don’t necessarily like it.”
Sirianni has faced scrutiny since last season’s disappointing finish, where the Eagles stumbled from a strong 10-1 start to end the season at 1-6, resulting in the dismissal of both offensive and defensive coordinators.
This season has also presented challenges. The Eagles’ offense, boasting star players like A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Saquon Barkley, has struggled to deliver consistent results. Since scoring 34 points in the season opener against the Green Bay Packers, the team has averaged just 18 points over the last four games. Key players, including Brown due to injury, have missed significant time, which has affected overall performance.
During the game, some sections of the crowd expressed their frustration with “Fire Nick” chants during difficult moments. Sirianni was notably more animated on the sidelines, engaging in verbal exchanges with Browns defensive backs, including Greg Newsome II, and displaying frustration with the officiating.
While Sirianni previously toned down his sideline antics—aiming to send a positive message to his players—he revealed that he received feedback from players asking him to bring back his energetic presence. He said, “I was having fun. And I kind of got some feedback from the guys, the sense of like, ‘We need you back, Nick. We need your energy. We need your focus,’” emphasizing the importance of his enthusiasm in motivating the team.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts echoed this sentiment, expressing his support for Sirianni’s return to his fiery demeanor. “It’s a reassurance of, we trust who you are… I’m excited for him and his growth,” Hurts said. He believes that Sirianni’s energy will contribute to the team’s success as they move forward.
