Sioux City experienced a transition from a gloomy morning to a cheerful afternoon on Wednesday, as sunshine and warmer temperatures emerged, accompanied by rising humidity. This pleasant weather is expected to continue into Thursday, albeit with some changes ahead.

Thursday morning began under a layer of low clouds in eastern Siouxland, which may linger into mid-morning, setting a dreary tone for the start of the day. However, the majority of the area can anticipate clearer skies and sunshine during the early hours. As lunchtime approaches, cloud coverage will increase with an incoming cold front from the west. Ahead of this front, expect breezy southerly winds gusting up to 30 mph, leading to a warm and muggy day with peak temperatures around 80°F and a dew point near 60°F.

By the afternoon, rain and isolated thunderstorms are forecasted to develop in the far western regions of Siouxland, particularly west of Highway 81, with the bulk of the precipitation concentrated there until after sunset.

Thursday night will bring a broken line of showers moving eastward. Rainfall totals are expected to remain light, likely not exceeding a tenth of an inch. The cloud cover combined with a strong southerly wind will help keep overnight temperatures mild, ranging in the mid to upper 50s.

Looking ahead to Friday, lingering showers may occur in far eastern Siouxland until noon, following which the skies should clear as the cold front passes. Expect cooler temperatures than Thursday, peaking in the low 70s, with comfortable conditions anticipated for Friday Night Football games, as temperatures will enjoy a gradual drop into the 60s after sunset.

The weekend promises a shift towards fall-like temperatures. Saturday morning will start cool, with lows in the low 40s, and daytime highs only reaching the low 60s, alongside a chance of showers continuing into the evening. Rain accumulation is predicted to be between a tenth and quarter of an inch. Although Sunday morning could see temperatures dip into the mid 30s—potentially allowing for frost to form—winds around 10 mph may mitigate this risk. Sunday afternoon looks to be the highlight of the weekend, featuring abundant sunshine and highs in the mid 60s, perfect for outdoor activities.

As the new week starts, another cold front is projected to bring isolated showers on Monday afternoon, with temperatures rising to the upper 60s. Following this front, a streak of pleasant fall weather is anticipated, with temperatures stabilizing in the upper 50s to low 60s through mid-week.
