Sinner Eyes No. 1 Return at Paris Masters After Alcaraz Exit

Jannik Sinner made a strong start in his pursuit of reclaiming the No. 1 ranking by defeating Zizou Bergs 6-4, 6-2 in the second round of the Paris Masters on Wednesday. To regain the top spot, the Italian must win the tournament after losing it to Carlos Alcaraz, who captured it at the U.S. Open final in September.

Sinner’s 65-week tenure at No. 1 came to an end during that final, in which Alcaraz secured his sixth Grand Slam title. However, Alcaraz’s early exit from the Paris tournament, losing to unseeded Cameron Norrie in the previous round, now gives Sinner a favorable chance.

Throughout the match against Bergs, Sinner demonstrated impressive form, registering 11 break-point opportunities and successfully converting three without facing any break points himself. “I was very precise, and I also started off with a break straight away, which gives you a bit more confidence,” Sinner said, reflecting on his performance. He is now aiming for his fifth title of the year and his overall 23rd.

This victory not only highlights Sinner’s current form but also sets the stage for an exciting race for the No. 1 ranking, indicating a competitive spirit that keeps fans on the edge of their seats as the tournament progresses.
