Former parliamentarian Simione Rasova has been granted approval to travel to Australia to participate in the Liberal Party’s Campaign Summer School and International Programme. This trip comes in the face of opposition from the prosecution. Mr. Rasova is set to depart for Canberra today, January 27, and will remain there until February 4, representing his position as the General Secretary of SODELPA.
Magistrate Pulekeria Low emphasized that while the public interest must be safeguarded, this can be achieved through stringent bail conditions. She reiterated the principle that Mr. Rasova is presumed innocent until proven guilty, in line with the tenets of the Constitution.
The former parliamentarian faces serious allegations related to submitting a false declaration about his permanent residence. These accusations have led to claims that he improperly received $21,350 in allowances he was allegedly not eligible for between July 2019 and April 2020. A substantive hearing on this matter is slated for February 9, marking an important date as the judicial process continues to develop.
