The Olympic flame is currently journeying through Sicily, following a recent stop in the historic city of Catania. This iconic flame is a central aspect of the two-month torch relay promoting the upcoming 2026 Winter Games, which will be held in Italy.
Originally ignited in ancient Olympia, Greece, last month, the torch was ceremoniously handed over to Italian officials in early December. Over the course of its journey, the flame will travel an impressive 12,000 kilometers, visiting all 110 provinces in Italy and reaching more than 300 towns and cities.
The relay is set to feature celebratory events at 60 different locations, fostering an atmosphere of excitement leading up to the Winter Olympics. Italy, which previously hosted the Winter Games in Turin in 2006, is embracing this relay as an opportunity to rekindle national pride and community spirit. The journey of the Olympic flame not only emphasizes Italy’s commitment to the Olympic movement but also serves to unite diverse communities while celebrating the country’s rich cultural heritage.
