Sia’s estranged husband, Daniel Bernad, has been denied sole custody of their son, 19-month-old Somersault Wonder, known as Summi. This ruling comes after Bernad filed an emergency order earlier this week, claiming Sia posed a “serious and immediate danger” to the child due to alleged substance abuse and addiction issues. However, court documents indicated that the judge found insufficient evidence to grant such an emergency order.
According to the ruling, the court noted, “The parties entered into a stipulated legal custody and interim physical custody arrangement on August 1, 2025,” and determined that most of the facts presented by Bernad were already known at that time. Consequently, the existing custody arrangement will remain, allowing Sia to retain primary custody with Bernad granted limited and monitored visitation.
In his filing, Bernad claimed that Sia had been hospitalized for two weeks the previous month and had tested positive for substances, including barbiturates and benzodiazepines. He characterized her conduct as reckless and dangerous, asserting that it demonstrated a disregard for their son’s well-being.
In response, Sia filed her own declaration rejecting Bernad’s claims, describing his request for sole custody as baseless. She asserted that the allegations against her regarding substance abuse were “entirely unfounded and misleading” and emphasized that while she had struggled with addiction in the past, she has been sober for over six months. Additionally, Sia highlighted that she is currently participating in a recovery program that includes regular drug testing and claimed that Bernad has refused to submit to similar evaluations.
Sia accused Bernad of being financially motivated in his custody request, stating that all of his demands for increased custody time were tied to financial gain rather than fostering a genuine relationship with Summi. She noted that since their separation in March, she has already provided Bernad with $300,000.
The ongoing legal disputes between Sia and Bernad spotlight the complexities of celebrity breakups, particularly involving children. As they navigate these challenging circumstances, there is hope for a resolution that prioritizes the well-being of their son and allows both parents to focus on their futures. This case not only underscores the challenges of co-parenting amid personal strife but also highlights the need for supportive measures to safeguard children’s welfare in contentious custody battles.
