During a speech preceding the vote on his party’s legislation, Senate Majority Leader John Thune from South Dakota expressed frustration over the Democrats’ refusal to support the bill introduced by Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin. Thune accused Democrats of being overly influenced by their base, suggesting they opposed the Republican measure solely to extend the dispute. He emphasized, “I have great news: The clean continuing resolution sitting at the desk would pay everybody — everybody!”
In times of government shutdowns, many federal workers face furloughs due to a lack of appropriated funds, while essential personnel, such as Social Security Administration staff, law enforcement, and air traffic controllers, continue their duties without immediate compensation.
