Mikaela Shiffrin, celebrated for her exceptional prowess in slalom skiing, is set to continue her impressive performance as she concludes 2025 with two significant races this weekend in Semmering, Austria. Viewers can catch the action live on NBCSN and Peacock, with a giant slalom taking place on Saturday followed by a slalom event on Sunday.

Shiffrin has been nothing short of dominant, having secured victories in her last five World Cup slalom races. Remarkably, she won each by margins exceeding one second, making history since no other athlete—male or female—had achieved more than three consecutive World Cup slalom wins by such a substantial margin.

Following her temporary setback due to a crash that injured her oblique muscles during a giant slalom race on November 30, 2024, Shiffrin has shown resilience and improvement, delivering her best giant slalom performances this season. Her results include finishes of fourth, 14th, sixth, and another fourth place in recent GS races.

With two-time Olympic champion Petra Vlhova of Slovakia sidelined due to knee surgeries after a crash in January 2024, Shiffrin’s competition has shifted towards Lara Colturi of Albania and Camille Rast of Switzerland in the slalom runs. As for the giant slalom, Alice Robinson from New Zealand and Julia Scheib of Austria have emerged as formidable competitors this season.

The World Cup ski season extends from October to March, with a break scheduled in February for the Olympics. Following the Semmering races, the circuit will continue with another giant slalom and slalom weekend on January 3-4 in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

This weekend not only represents a chance for Shiffrin to enhance her already impressive legacy but also serves as an exciting opportunity for fans to witness top-tier skiing competition.
