The Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort, under the leadership of manager Yvo Alexander Van Dijk, is actively participating in the global initiative known as “Goodnight Moon,” aimed at raising funds for the UNICEF Foundation for Children. This initiative is part of a broader effort that encompasses approximately 450 Sheraton hotels worldwide.

Mr. Van Dijk explained that “Goodnight Moon” involves creating a bedtime story for children, with contributions from readers across the globe. In addition to this creative aspect, the initiative features a donation drive supported by the Marriott corporation, which matches donations made in Marriott Bonvoy points at an impressive rate of two-to-one. This means that for every dollar donated in points, Marriott will contribute an additional two dollars, with the entirety of the funds benefiting UNICEF and various charities worldwide.

To facilitate donations, the resort has established a wishing tree in its lobby. Both hotel guests and visitors from outside the facility are encouraged to contribute. As Mr. Van Dijk mentioned, “if you stay in any of our hotels, you collect points that can be further donated,” allowing guests to make a difference during their stay.

The Sheraton Fiji has personally contributed 25,000 points to this cause, equivalent to $100, showcasing their commitment to helping those in need. Funds collected by UNICEF through this partnership will be allocated to local NGOs, ensuring that a portion of the support remains within the community.

The resort’s longstanding collaboration with the Malolo Homes orphanage has now entered its third year, with initiatives such as providing Christmas gifts for 45 children last year. Mr. Van Dijk highlighted the positive impact of these efforts, praising the individuals behind the Malolo Homes for their dedication and generosity.

Additionally, the hotel is organizing another customer donation drive for the children at Malolo Homes. Last year’s successful initiative involved guests donating items based on a wishlist prepared by the children, or providing cash donations which were then used to purchase presents.

With projects like “Goodnight Moon” and continued support for local charities, Sheraton Fiji strives to foster a sense of community and goodwill, bringing hope and joy to the lives of children in need.
