The Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort, led by manager Yvo Alexander Van Dijk, is actively engaged in the global initiative “Goodnight Moon,” which aims to raise funds for the UNICEF Foundation for Children. This initiative is part of a significant effort involving nearly 450 Sheraton hotels worldwide, all working together to make a difference.
Mr. Van Dijk shared that the “Goodnight Moon” program invites readers from around the globe to contribute to a bedtime story for children. Alongside this creative endeavor, the initiative features a donation campaign supported by Marriott Corporation, which has pledged to match donations made in Marriott Bonvoy points at a rate of two-to-one. For every dollar donated in points, Marriott will contribute an additional two dollars, ensuring that all funds generated will benefit UNICEF and other charitable organizations globally.
To encourage donations, the Sheraton Fiji has set up a wishing tree in its lobby, welcoming contributions from both hotel guests and local visitors. Mr. Van Dijk noted that guests can accumulate points during their stay, which can be then donated to support the cause, reinforcing the idea that every little effort helps.
The Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort has already made a contribution of 25,000 points, equivalent to $100, reflecting their commitment to humanitarian efforts. The funds collected through this initiative by UNICEF will be directed to local NGOs, ensuring that some assistance stays within the community.
This initiative is complemented by the resort’s ongoing partnership with the Malolo Homes orphanage, which has now entered its third year. Their efforts have included providing Christmas gifts for 45 children last year. Mr. Van Dijk commended the workers at Malolo Homes for their unwavering commitment and generosity towards the children.
Furthermore, the resort is planning another donation drive specifically for the children at Malolo Homes. Last year’s initiative was successful, with guests contributing items based on a wishlist from the children or providing cash donations to purchase gifts.
Through initiatives like “Goodnight Moon” and continuous support for local charities, Sheraton Fiji is dedicated to nurturing a sense of community and goodwill. Their efforts bring hope and joy to the lives of children in need, demonstrating the power of collective action in making a meaningful impact.
