BEREA, Ohio – Shedeur Sanders is currently focused on making the most of his opportunities as the starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, despite speculation about his future with the team. In a media briefing on Wednesday, Sanders explained that he sees the last four games of the season as an important opportunity rather than just an audition for the starting role in 2026.
Sanders highlighted his unique position following a matchup against Tennessee Titans’ rookie quarterback Cam Ward, whom he faced in Week 14. When questioned about his offseason plans, Sanders emphasized that his main concern is to give his best while focusing on the remaining games. “This is my life here. So we on two different spectrums right now,” he stated, referring to the steady pressure on NFL players.
The Browns, standing at 3-10 and already out of playoff contention, will be using the remainder of the season to evaluate their roster for the future. With two first-round picks in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft, the team could be in the market for a franchise quarterback. Sanders, who was the 144th overall pick in this year’s draft, is optimistic about his current role as he prepares to start the last segment of the season.
Coming off his best performance as a professional, in which he accounted for 394 total yards and four touchdowns in a close loss to the Titans, Sanders has shown promise. He leads all rookie quarterbacks with 722 passing yards and five touchdown passes since taking the field as a starter in Week 12. His achievements include being one of only two players, alongside Joe Burrow, to throw for over 350 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for a touchdown as a rookie.
Head Coach Kevin Stefanski praised Sanders’ dedication to improvement, underscoring the importance of continual development for young quarterbacks. “I just think he’s committed to getting better every single week. And that’s what you want,” Stefanski remarked.
Despite the team’s struggles, Sanders chooses to remain focused on the present. “That’s a long deep thought,” he mused about the future, stating that his attention is on the upcoming game against the Chicago Bears. Sanders insists he is not content with merely participating; he is driven to lead the team effectively.
As the final games approach, Sanders’ commitment and performance could play a critical role in his future with the Browns. With optimism in his approach, he aims to leave a lasting impact before the season concludes, showcasing his talent and determination.
