Shaquill Griffin Makes a Comeback: Seahawks Welcome Back Their Pro Bowl Cornerback

Veteran cornerback Shaquill Griffin is making a triumphant return to the Pacific Northwest, having signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks, as reported by NFL insider Jordan Schultz. The deal is worth $3 million, with the potential to earn up to $4 million, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Griffin, who spent his first four NFL seasons with the Seahawks, enjoyed a standout moment in 2019 when he made his Pro Bowl debut. His tenure with Seattle paved the way for a lucrative three-year, $44.5 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021. However, the 29-year-old faced challenges in Jacksonville, appearing in just 19 games over two seasons before being waived as the team sought to save costs. He went on to play for the Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers during the 2023 season.

More recently, Griffin joined the Minnesota Vikings, where he played every game, recorded 41 tackles, and secured two interceptions. Throughout the season, quarterbacks had a 54.4 percent completion rate and a 75.8 rating when targeting him, showcasing his ability to contribute to a defensive scheme.

With Griffin’s return to the Seahawks, fans can expect his familiarity with the team’s culture, even though several changes have occurred since he last played in Seattle. New head coach Mike Macdonald, defensive coordinator Aden Durde, and defensive backs coach Karl Scott have all taken over, and the secondary has undergone a transformation since 2020. Nevertheless, Griffin’s experience and proven track record come at a favorable price point for the Seahawks, who were in need of another cornerback after not filling the position during the recent NFL draft.

This move marks a hopeful step for Griffin as he seeks to reignite his career with a team and environment he knows well. It’s an exciting opportunity for him to potentially reclaim a prominent role in the Seahawks’ defense.
