Residents of Lee County are facing ongoing challenges with roads and traffic congestion, but the Lee County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is actively seeking community input to shape the future of transportation in the area.

The MPO has launched its Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) for 2050, which aims to create a comprehensive 25-year vision addressing the transportation needs of the community. This plan will not only cover the needs of drivers but will also cater to bicyclists, pedestrians, and public transportation users. It includes strategies for freight movement within the county as well.

As part of the LRTP, the MPO has established a dedicated website that is continuously updated with new information, documentation, and details about upcoming meetings, including a virtual meeting room where community members can access the same materials available at in-person workshops. This virtual space allows individuals to leave comments and participate in a survey that seeks to gather insights on current transportation behaviors and future needs.

The online survey, available in both English and Spanish, is designed to take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete and will be open until June 14. This feedback will be instrumental in guiding future transportation improvements across Lee County.

For those interested in discussing the LRTP further, a public hearing is scheduled for June 20, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at the Lee County Administration East Building.

The engagement of residents in this planning process signifies a hopeful step towards creating an efficient and effective transportation network that serves the diverse needs of the community. By participating in the survey and attending the public hearing, residents can play a crucial role in helping shape the transportation landscape of Lee County for the future.
