Shangri-La Yanuca Island Partners with Confucius Institute for Asian Heritage Initiative in Fiji

Shangri-La Yanuca Island has reinforced its dedication to celebrating Asian heritage by entering a partnership with the Confucius Institute at the University of the South Pacific. This collaboration was formalized when CEO Francis Lee signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Li Chunxue, the Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute. The partnership aims to launch a long-term program of cultural activities and exchanges in Fiji.

As part of this initiative, the resort recently hosted a demonstration of Baduanjin, an ancient Chinese exercise form, which attracted around 100 attendees, including children from the local Nadroumai and Cuvu District. Events like these are crucial for the Shangri-La group’s global Arts & Culture initiative introduced last year, and they serve to deepen the connection between the resort and the local community.

Francis Lee articulated that this partnership aligns with the resort’s vision of enriching cultural experiences for both guests and the community, highlighting the importance of fostering ties through education and the arts. Li Chunxue echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that sharing Asian traditions would enhance educational and social connections.

Furthermore, the initiative seeks to incorporate a variety of educational programs, hands-on workshops, and performances to promote Asian culture, thereby creating meaningful experiences for visitors and locals alike. The commitment of Shangri-La Yanuca Island to foster cultural exchange reflects its broader goals of enhancing community engagement and supporting cultural diversity.

This positive development not only showcases the rich tapestry of Asian heritage but also underscores the potential for collaborative cultural initiatives to contribute to Fiji’s tourism landscape while providing residents with invaluable learning experiences. The partnership stands as a testament to the beneficial outcomes of engaging with local communities and embracing diverse cultural practices, fostering a brighter, more interconnected future.
