Shakespeare Unearthed: A Costume Journey Awaits at The Public Theater!

The Public Theater is set to unveil its Shakespeare Costume Exhibit at the Shiva Theater, launching on Wednesday, August 6 and continuing through Sunday, August 31. This exhibit pays homage to The Public’s roots as the New York Shakespeare Festival and its longstanding commitment to Shakespeare’s works.

The display features an impressive costume from each of Shakespeare’s 38 plays, all of which have been performed at The Delacorte Theater or The Public Theater over the last 60-plus years. Noteworthy costumes worn by acclaimed actors, including Meryl Streep, Al Pacino, and Viola Davis, will be on view, providing a fascinating glimpse into the theatrical history surrounding Shakespeare’s timeless works.

Visitors will have the unique opportunity to experience this showcase free of charge, with no ticket required for entry. The exhibit coincides with The Public Theater’s daily Twelfth Night ticket lottery, which begins at noon. Curated by Director of Costumes Vanessa Watters and Associate Director Melinda Basaca, this event promises to enrich audience appreciation for both Shakespeare and the artistry involved in theatrical costume design.

This celebration of Shakespeare not only highlights the cultural significance of his works but also encourages engagement with live theater, making it an exciting opportunity for both theater enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
